My short film, named Gorta, is about Aaron who is approached by a strange old man while working in his garden and something strange happens to him when he doesn't give him what he wants.
Writing and coming up with stories have never been my strongest, so in these types of assignments I tend to come up with the most simplistic story possible, but with a little something else in there to make it different. For this, I tend to pull inspiration from Irish Mythology. The old man character is based on the creature known as the 'fear gorta' - or the hungry man or famine man. This creature is said to roam around Ireland during times of drought and famine and beg for alms, bringing good luck and fortune to those that give him some, but will curse those who do not with poverty and bad luck. He is also thought to have caused the Great Irish Famine.
Cinematography and editing I feel are my strongest abilities when it comes to film making, so I feel as though I excelled in these areas of my film. Overall, I am happy with the film, but would make some adjustments to it as a whole if I was to make it again.
